Your task for this assignment is to make a sweded movie.
A sweded movie is a repurposed version of a popular movie. It is made using the materials you find around you including sets, costumes, props, etc. For your movie, your group should shoot a 5-7 minute movie using a minimal amount of editing. As many of you noted in responses to the movie Be Kind Rewind, a sweded film is about more than just remaking a movie; a sweded movie is about bringing a community of people together and providing a unique form of entertainment.
Your sweded video is due in class to be screened on Tues, Sept 8. One week later, on Sept 15, you will have 2 writing assignments due. First, you must post a reflection on your blog about the process of shooting your sweded video. You should blog on the 4 stages of the process: pre-production/brainstorming, shooting, editing, post-production/critique. Note that you shouldn’t have much to say about editing since this project should only be minimally edited, but you should have more to say about the other 3 stages. We’ll go over these in more detail in class.
The 2nd writing assignment is a short hard copy reflection on your participation in the group process. Talk about what parts of the video you contributed to, and also briefly assess the participation of the other group members. These should be short (1-2 paragraphs) and will be confidential.
As a part of every project you do in the class, I will make a grading rubric. Click here for the grading rubric for the sweded project.
You get your cameras in Rm 288 English building.
